Approximately fifty vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Officers state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.
The substance had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.
Officers then found multiple other marked vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under regulations banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials state initial examinations indicate the fluid was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; investigators are currently not aware of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities stated they were working "to unravel the case" and have requested to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking political figure stated the incident rendered him without words and required to be solved rapidly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a shooter targeting people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
